An implant is a process whereby a titanium screw is surgically placed into the jaw bone. This is used to replace single, missing teeth or areas where more than one tooth has been lost. Mobile dentures can be more securely fastened (clicked onto) implants, in order to create better retention and more stability.

A prosthetic tooth or teeth is then attached to the screw to give a very aesthetic appearance. The process is not nearly as painful as people would imagine and can often be performed in the dentist’s chair without the need for hospitalization.

Treatments may vary, but usually, a 12 - 15-week healing phase is required once the implant is placed. During this time a temporary tooth/teeth may be placed, after which the permanent tooth/teeth are inserted.
